Duo Solea
Trained by guitarist Armen Doneyan and cellist Michèle Pierre, the Duo Solea are the musical extra-terrestrials of the classical scene. Their first album, released in 2018, recently received 4 stars from Classica magazine. Winner of serval international competitions (1st prize Leopold Bellan and public prize, 1st prize Rabastens and public prize, FNAPEC partners grant), the Duo Solea is regularly invited to perform in numerous concerts and festivals (Jeunes Talents, Musicales de l’Orangerie, Musique à La Prée, Scènes du Jura, Lunéville, La Brèche…) as well as in various radio programmes (Générations jeunes interprètes de Gaëlle Le Gallic, Classic Club de Lionel Esparza). In 2012, Michèle and Armen, then students at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, were spellbound by the intimate interaction between their two instruments: the combination of guitar and cello is rich in contrasting colours and textures. They studied with François Salque and Itamar Golan, and obtained their degree in chamber music in 2014. The two musicians are committed to creating repertoire for their group, and commissioning young composers (Trois Duos Amoureux by Romain Dumas) and composers (Le Mirage by Seongmi Kim). Similarly, they co-create and ensure the artistic direction of the festival La Semaine Classique du Lavoir, which takes place every year at the Lavoir Moderne Parisien, in the exceptional Goutte d’Or theatre. Endeavouring to make classical music accessible to all, they created Décacord, a ten-stringed concert combining humour and music in partnership with the Jeunesses Musicales de France. The show will be performed in front of more than 30,000 children during a tour of 120 performances throughout France.
